FDNY cancels Firefighter’s Calendar

Unfortunately, because of this post the FDNY has decided to put an end to their Firefighter’s Calendar. I am very displeased about this as that calendar raises funds for many worthwhile efforts by the FDNY. I’m glad that Mike Biserta isn’t going to be disciplined. I am sad that after all the workouts he put in, going through the interviews and representing his department in a very professional way both in print and on television that the department has decided to stop producing the calendars after this one. It wasn’t my intention to cause any trouble for Mike or the honourable men and women of the FDNY, only to report on something I thought would be of interest to my readers. I hope that Michael Biserta and his fellow firefighters, along with all the people who buy the calendars will call, write and e-mail the FDNY to continue this calendar in the coming years. Click here for a form that allows you to anonymously e-mail the commissioner and let him know you think they firefighters should be allowed to participate in future calendars. CONTACT FORM FOR THE FIRE COMMISSIONER CLICK HERE FOR FDNY FIRESTORE CALENDARS SECTION UPDATE 8/06/2007: I just want to say thanks to the nice man (I’ll skip using his name) in the Press Office who shouted at me something like "So you decided to ruin this kid’s life for my own self glorification". It was news, I reported it. I feel bad about the loss of revenue from the calendars. Did he think that yelling at me was going to do any good? Maybe he should have spent his time yelling at Commissioner Scoppetta that pulling firefighters from the calendar was a mistake. In my opinion, Scoppetta caved in to a public outcry that I still haven’t seen manifest itself. No more firefighters in calendars. Okay, so who in the press office is working on the release to ask New Yorkers to fork over $150,00 for eqiupment and training next year? Trust me, they’d rather have you sell calendars than fork over the cash to you. Well, okay, go buy a calendar and e-mail Scoppetta. I’ve got to go take some aspirin. All the yelling in my ear has given me a headache. |
